My daughter tells me that she learned in her 3rd grade class that the clapper rail population is now under 700. Coastal marshes in the United States are now considered to be in the top 20 habitats most at risk. Gentle readers, if you live in the U.S. of A, please get out your checkbook and write a check to your favorite conservation group, such as Audubon, American Bird Conservancy or the Nature Conservancy. Subdivisions and shopping malls are not the legacy that we want to pass on to our future generations.
