In May and June, the snow retreats, revealing the tundra. The Ptarmigan moults to match.
The ptarmigan was literally sitting in a willow "tree" by the side of the road. Taken with the 500mm handheld in a running car. As the Russians say - it's not a miracle the bear dances well. It's a miracle the bear dances at all.
