Western Scrub-Jay Aphelocoma californica
Well... I've gotten to a new low in low-energy shooting (that's market speak for lazy). I now just lie on my rug in my workshop with the door open and shoot at birds under the feeder (that's my trellis reflected in his eye) ;-)

This jay is probably smart enough he'll take his picture, crop it, and upload it on flickr... I'd be willing to let him, but being a jay, he's definitely not going to be satisfied with just that!

Does anyone know what function those nasal bristles serve on corvids? I've noticed them on ravens as well. Is it some sort of air filtering thing, like our nose hair?
