Townsend's Warbler Dendroica townsendi
Bill and I and our new friend Yamil went to a remarkable place this morning that's made all the papers.

On our coast we have numerous ranches. This ranch has dumped a huge amount of rotting brussel sprouts near a bunch of willows (the smell, the goop, the sinky stinky soil...). Which of course has bred flys, which has attracted migrating warblers and kinglets.

We witnessed dozens of these warblers. Many would come right up to within handlength (Bill asked if I was carrying extension tubes!). I suppose they would have jumped in my hand if I was holding rotten brussel sprouts (no thank you!).

All the warblers had muddy faces from probing in the sprouts, so it was more of a nature study than anything else. But what a day.

An almost full-frame pic, taken almost at eye-level. Laundry is busy this afternoon :-)
