Red Phalarope Phalaropus fulicarius
I love the fact that red, and red-necked, phalaropes have "reverse sexual dimorphism" and experience polyandry. The male sits on the nest, the female has all the pretty colors, and she's the one who jumps from nest to nest, laying eggs.

Taken on the Barrow tundra, where every thirty feet, there is another 5 foot pond holding a male or female phalarope. It's such an amazing place.

I'm having a devil of a time getting the original phalarope red correctly rendered in Firefox's color gamut. :-( Partial solution found - just before saving screen image turn color management off under Apply Profile...

Size is deceiving - the bird is the same size as a robin.
