Check out On Feathered Wings: Birds in Flight by Richard Ettlinger. Inspiring, but incredibly humbling. Jim Neiger, whose flight school I took in Florida, has some of his pictures in the book. There is also a series of 24" x 36" photos in the New York American Museum of Natural History - check it out if you're there!
Motivated by the book and Tinyfishy's goal, I'm going to try for 100 flight shots of different species for the rest of the year mostly done using the 500mm handheld.
