Pelagic Cormorant Phalacrocorax pelagicus
Handheld 500mm

Just got back from a wonderful week long vacation in Mendocino, California. A very mellow place, and a birder's delight. I spent an hour every morning building up my muscles with the 500mm at the "headlands" (the ocean) watching a rookery, where murres, cormorants (Brandts and Pelagics) and Guillemots were nesting. Lots of missed opportunities and swearing, but I managed to add a few birds in flight to my 100 birds in flight set. :-)

The forest birding was INCREDIBLE - more on that later.
