Agami Heron
Agami Heron Agamia agami
A night shot, using a searchlight and flash only. Something about having the flash turned down to -3, plus the searchlight, plus maybe the diffuser? - One of the few flash birds that didn't get steel-eye.

We found this incredible (and rare) bird with a boat and a trolling motor at about 10 at night - roosting in a branch above our head. I wasn't prepared for how close you can get to a bird that's roosting. I had brought my 500, when my 200mm would have been the correct lens. So I had to take the bird in sections, hope it wouldnt move, and use Photoshop's panorama merge to stitch it together!

This was taken at Lamanai in Belize. Our 4 days at Lamanai were my favorite of the trip. Awesome birds, awesome guide, wonderful and friendly staff and service and great food. The village of Lamanai reminded me SO MUCH of the villages of south India. I felt completely at home. I would return in a heartbeat. If you're thinking about a neo-tropic trip, support ecotourism - and definitely go to the Lamanai Outpost Lodge
