Tufted Duck

Life bird! My thanks to Hockey.Lover a.k.a. Gail, who pointed out this duck was back at Lake Merritt. Bill Walker and I have gone to look for this duck every year for 5 years, sometimes multiple times...Finally!
The key fieldmark was not the tuft, which is hard to see (black on black). The key fieldmark is the black back compared to the scaup's salt-and-pepper grey back. The bill's "nail" is also really broad - from edge to edge.
So next time it should be easy for me to pick up the one unusual duck out of several hundred. Right?... Right?...
