Barn Owl Tyto alba
A wonderful morning spent with Don/hearman and Ganesh/@llure up at Don's place. People think that Don lives in a raptor paradise with hawks on every other pole and owls showing up to eat the mice attached to the top of Don's hat. Well guess what. It's all true (except for the mouse hat!).

Don knew this barn owl living in a ... wait for it .... barn. We got to the farm, started walking to the barn, and discovered a mess of barn owl feathers at the bottom of a post near the barn. Oh. oh. Barn owls have an average life-span of two years. They are one of the favorite foods of a great horned owl. It looked like a GHO or some other raptor had grabbed the owl, sat on the post and then had a good meal. The Inuit name for the town of Barrow Alaska translates roughly to "the place where we hunt and eat snowy owls" - so I guess owls must taste good!

Saddened, but with hope, Don moved on, and then... YES! this owl came to visit. Woo-hoo.
