Northern Elephant Seal

Hippo of the sea, as my friend Leena calls them.
This elephant seal was all alone in a little bay at Pigeon Point. The authorities had blocked access to the bay with yellow-tape "Sheriff's Line - Do not Cross". I kept looking for the crime scene until this chap surfaced, and then I realized they didn't want people getting closer than the state-allowed limit of 300 feet (a football field!)
Unusual to see one in the water instead of hauled out on the beach.
