Mew Gull Larus canus
Sadly, I am now afflicted with the advanced dementia that comes to birders who take Alvaro Jaramillo's class on gull identification. Al makes gull id so fun that you keep coming back for more confused "what the heck is that?" It's done wonders for motivating my photography/portfolio. Now instead of just wanting a decent adult gull shot I want 1st cycle, 2nd cycle, 3rd cycle, portraits, flight shots, underwing, overwing... I will be at this a while. It's also done wonders for my gull id - now I can misidentify a whole new class of birds ;-)

Coupled with this has been obsessive immersion in the gull paintings of Jamie Wyeth. Painting is seriously influencing my photography. It's a wonderful reinvention and I'm enjoying the journey very much! Early in the morning, the beach at Natural Bridges State Park is paralell to the sun direction. If you position yourself just right, you can take advantage of the sun rise to make images that make me immediately think "IMPRESSIONIST". Here's a series of one 1st cycle gull as the sun comes up:
