I have hiked thru fire and brimstone to get a poor shot of these birds.
Last week, our tour group quickly birded at Awbrey Hall Burn in Sisters, Oregon. Amongst the joggers, the bicyclists, and the baby carriages there were at least 30 Lewis's Woodpeckers and juveniles. A quarter mile from the parking lot. Courtesy of a very dedicated bird conservation group.
I'm going back there next year and stay a while! :-)
